Welcome

Welcome to my website! I am a husband, father, father in-law, grandfather, and chief servant to Stark, a loyal Rottweiler, Labrador, and German Shepherd rescue mix.

After five years of pitching with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization (including three glorious shutout innings in a mid-season exhibition game against the Kansas City Royals—my 45-minutes of local fame and glory) and four decades as an educator (teacher, administrator, and University of California professor), I now write memoirs and deliver workshops and impromptu speeches about how pitching high expectations can enhance one’s success.

Having used expectations (subconsciously and then consciously for over fifty years)—and experienced more than my fair share of ups and downs in learning to effectively apply them—I’m well-qualified to explain how these vital thoughts and communications can be applied to improve achievement in and out of schools, classrooms, and home environments.

After completing my first book, Baseball’s Greatest Miracle: My High School Hero, Thirteen Gritty Players, and Our Historic Comeback Season, I’m now working on a four-book memoir series, Making the Most of My Stints, including a prequel, My Dream Seasons (forthcoming in early 2026), a more personal rewrite of Baseball’s Greatest Miracle, My Greatest Seasons, and two sequels: Pitching Pygmalion and My Final Innings (forthcoming in late 2026 and 2027). My easel, paints, canvasses, and patrons will simply have to wait.
